Danish language and culture
AT BRENDERUP HØJSKOLE
All the classes about Danish language and culture are for you who want to learn Danish, or for you who have Danish as your second language. If Danish is your second language or you are in the country for a limited period, this is the place where you can work with your Danish language skills at a level that suits you.
Since you live at the school, you are constantly trained in the language and challenged to use what you have learned in the Danish classes.
Regardless your skills in Danish, you have the opportunity to learn more of the language and to get to know the Danish culture.
The choice is yours.
Danish language and cultural exchange
Based on the language – Danish as a second language – we will work with cultural exchange. Each student will make a presentation in Danish about the student´s own country and culture. Concurrently, we will work with grammar individually and collectively.
Danish society and culture
The aim is to broaden your knowledge about the Danish culture and the Danish society. We will prepare visits, exchange experiences and visit various Danish institutions. We will among others visit a farm, talk to the local priest and get a glimpse of the Danish National Church traditions. We will hear about the Danish school system, visit the local kindergarten and the local nursing home.
Phrasebook Danish – Danish for beginners
The tuition is based on playing with the language. We will make small communication exercises, use music, read small texts and work with short written exercises.
We will prepare for the Danish labour market and work with:
• Words and phrases at a workplace
• Text reading and conversation
• The unwritten rules in a Danish workplace
• Job adds and applications
• Visit locale companies
Danish language through text reading
We will read short stories and newspaper articles. Together we will discuss what we have read, make small presentations or discuss in smaller groups.
Work with literary expression. Writing short and slightly longer stories with a common theme, and in smaller groups we will work with writing exercises.
Denmark is known for its good movies and skilled movie instructors. We will work with movies that present the Danish culture and certain time periods. We will prepare by text reading, conversation and discussion, and we will reflect on the movie in the same way.
